Are you implementing an intranet? Take a look inside Lewis Group’s social intranet for unique ways to engage your users and develop your site into a core communications tool for your company.
In just a few short months, Lewis Group has launched a successful intranet site for over 600 users spread across three offices in the United Kingdom. The company used a variety of innovative promotions to get users excited about using the site with ideas like an employee profile contest and CEO Blogging.
To drive adoption and build out rich employee profiles, Lewis Group kicked off an employee profiles contest prior to the site launch to get users excited about their intranet. The Managing Director posted a speech on the intranet which contained information about the competition.

The competition is open to all and our panel of judges will rate you on the BEST personal profile. “We launched an employee profile competition on the release of the intranet. The competition closed a couple of week ago and we’re currently in the process of judging a winner. About 300 people notified us of their participation to the competition.” Says Carolyn Dickson, a consultant for the Lewis Group’s Intranet. “The end result of the competition came down to two profiles and they may decide to split the winnings.”
Lewis Group’s CEO, Dave Berry, encourages employees to use the intranet and he has two ways that he communicates the benefit of the intranet to his employees. First, Dave emails his monthly newsletter called “Berry’s briefing” to employees, which links to the intranet. Through Berry’s Briefing, Lewis Group ran a contest for the name of the site and came up with “Talking Point”. Dave also has a blog which introduces everyone to the intranet and lets employees know that the intranet is a way to communicate with one another.
Andy Boot, IT Technical Services Analyst, has been using the Application Builder to create a Certificate Library (used for storing and training certificates), FAQs and Useful Links. “Having a social intranet is great because people can update their profiles and communicate with each other,” says Andy Boot. Employees learn about one another and they can put a face to a name.
A big thanks goes out to Andy Boot and Carolyn Dickson for sharing their intranet story on launching their social intranet!
We want to hear about the people behind your intranet! This November, tell us your story about how the people in your organization are impacted by your intranet and we’ll make a donation to the charity of your choice.
