Email blasts?  Annoying. Documents hidden beneath the depths of a shared drive?  Frustrating. A static webpage with millions of links but no search functionality?  Terrifying. The good news is there is a better way!

Should You Buy or Build Your Intranet

Summary: The difference between a buy and a build intranet, with checklists to determine which one better suits your needs.
Should you buy or build your intranet? Every company purchasing an intranet faces this question. There are advantages and challenges to moving forward with either option. To move forward with a ‘buy intranet’ means choosing out-of-the-box functionality that you can quickly deploy and even delegate deployment to non-IT or technical related staff. To select a ‘build intranet’ means choosing to customize and architect an intranet that fits around your specific environment through consulting services and a elongated implementation period.

How to Find and Select Your First Intranet

When shopping for a suit, you usually have a vision in mind of what you’re looking for – color, fit, size, brand, blazer? You have a pretty good idea of what you want, but of course you still need to spend some time trying different suits on before you make the commitment of purchasing, as a suit should be timeless and last you awhile.

Shopping for an intranet is a similar process.

An Intranet Connections Movember Success

Last month men everywhere gave up their upper lips for Movember, a global movement which raises funds for prostate and testicular cancer research and promotes awareness for men’s mental health issues. Movember 2013 consisted of 1.1 million registered Mo Participants and raised a total of 146.6M CAD!

For the second year in a row some of our Intranet Connections’ team members joined the Movember movement. Our Team ICGROMO raised over $4,300, grew some interesting facial hair, raised awareness about an important cause and had a lot of fun.  The best part?  We tracked it all and promoted our efforts internally using our own Intranet Connections Intranet Software. At Intranet Connections we love how our intranet not only assists us in our day-to-day business needs, but also helps to improve our Company Culture and makes Intranet Connections a great place to work.

Intranets Battle Enterprise Social Networking

I recently read an article in CMSWire titled “Are Intranets Becoming Irrelevant?” (see article link below) that brought about some strong beliefs surrounding the use of social networking tools in the enterprise.

I have to first admit that I am not privy to the author, Tom Petrocelli’s research data and can only speak to the subject based on my own experience with our more than 1,600 customers, as a provider of intranet software for over 14 years which consists of both business tools and social utilities, as well as a dash of my own opinion, to which everyone is entitled.

The statement of debate is that enterprise social networking tools such as Yammer have taken the place of business intranets. The article states that “Ultimately, the goals and usefulness of an intranet can be achieved by the enterprise social network but not the other way around”.

I disagree. Intranets are far from obsolete and I’ll tell you why.
